Gary Peters (D-MI) on Wednesday accused Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the chair of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, of leading a biased investigation into the origins of COVID-19 as part of a vendetta against Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former longtime head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), with whom he has long clashed. "This hearing appears to be a culmination of months of biased and selected efforts by the majority under the guise of a committee investigation to basically legitimize a predetermined conclusion that was reached years ago," Sen. Peters, the panel's ranking member, said in his opening statement. "One-sided investigations designed to validate predetermined conclusions do not serve the American people, who sent us to actually uncover the truth and solve problems." The Michigan Democrat also accused the chairman of withholding key documents from the panel's minority members. "The chairman has repeatedly excluded the committee's minority and withheld documents and evidence from members that are entitled to receive them, disregarding long-standing Senate rules and precedent that have preserved the credibility of our oversight in this committee for decades," he said. #cspan #fauci #investigation #news WW6LYbtalXR ZA9H1Rif9r4 r8lx7k3AiEy I8EXn54uRfK cthW618etsb vJK8YIccaC8
