SANDYS ACCIDENTAL FLEDGE! LUNA KNOCKED HER OFF BRANCH WHILE RETURNING TO NEST ๐Ÿ’– FOBBVCAM 6.28.26 [30vRZ0n6o7i]

From FOBBV: "This morning at 11:24am Cam time, both Sandy and Luna were on the front porch. Luna attempted to jump over Sandy to get back to the nest, when Sandy lost her footing and fell to some branches below. A few minutes later she freed herself from those branches and apparently landed somewhere below the nest as we could hear her squees. Jackie showed up within minutes and landed below the nest keeping an eye on Sandy. At 11:30am, our security camera captured Sandy flying from the nest tree area to another area out of view, making it difficult to find where she landed. Sandy looked good in her flight, and she is likely relaxing from her unexpected adventure. Jackie and Shadow will now follow her wherever she goes and make sure she is fed and taken care of. Currently our camera operators are continuing to search for her." The FOBBV security cam 3 was not zoomed in on Sandy like Cam 2 was and it captured her flying off. The very short clip can be seen in the FOBBV facebook page Sandy didn't know that she would fly today but she did so beautifully! One ground observer noted that they say her flying to a near by tree! A fludge is when an eaglet accidentally & unintentionally leaves the nest. A fludge is still considered a fledge since Sandy did fly off on her own. Congratulations Sandy on your first flight at 84 days old! โ™ฅ Luna was very concerned for Sandy as he could hear her but not see her under the nest. Luna even called out in distress for Sandy as he was looking for her. When Sandy let go of the branches in the basement there was some noise heard from cam 1 and Luna then saw Sandy flying off into the distance! What an emotional day it has been! Rest assured the FOBBV team and cam ops will be watching out for Sandy. Jackie is nearby and that is a very positive sign as she knows that Sandy has now fledged. A big shout out to the Friends of Big Bear Valley team and cam ops for capturing it all. Jackie & Shadow will take care of Sandy and with their eagle eyes they know where she is perched. It may take some time for Sandy to fly again so we need to be patient and not worry. We all thought Luna would be the first to fly :) All the Big Bear eaglets that fledged - intentionally or unintentionally, have returned to the nest so we wait and hope to see Sandy back soon.
