Here’s what I look for instead: 1. Do they notice things? Attention to detail and awareness can't be taught. 2. How do they treat people? Especially those who can't do anything for them. 3. Do they take ownership? Or do they just narrate why something wasn't their fault? 4. Would I want them beside me on a hard day? 5. Do they care when no one's watching? Skills can be taught. Standards can't. Some of the most "qualified" candidates couldn't be trusted with a guest, while others with zero experience walked in with everything that truly mattered. Hire for character.
