State Police responded around 3:30 a.m. after someone splattered white paint and sprayed black paint on the front gate along Beacon Street. White footprints were left behind on the brick sidewalk, and the suspect reportedly fled into Boston Common. Shortly after, police were alerted to a suspicious package in the Common, believed to have been abandoned by the suspect. As a precaution, the bomb squad was called in and part of the park was temporarily closed to the public. Authorities are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to contact the State Police Boston Barracks.
